Cinema in the Blue Salon: In a Year of 13 Moons.

"Every seventh year is a year of the moon, in which particularly many people suffer from depression. But when a lunar year is also a year with 13 new moons, as in 1978, personal tragedies occur," according to the opening credits. Frankfurt 1978: The transsexual Elvira Weishaupt finds no happiness in her new existence. Abandoned by her lover, betrayed by her girlfriend, rejected by an old friend, she recapitulates her life....

In a Year with 13 Moons is one of Fassbinder's most personal films, in which he dealt with the suicide of his former lover Armin Meier, who took his own life with a sleeping pill overdose after separating from Fassbinder.
