Vier der zwölf berufenen Professoren sind Lebenszeitprofessoren, darunter die Professoren der Theoriefächer mit Promotionsrecht. Acht sind auf sechs Jahre berufen, können aber nach Ablauf der Zeit bei Bewährung eine Lebenszeitprofessur erhalten. Außerdem hat die Hochschule fünf Dreijahresprofessuren und fünf Einjahresprofessuren eingerichtet.
Die zeitliche Staffelung der Professorenstellen läßt es zu, schnell auf neue Entwicklungen zu reagieren und auch wechselnde Lehrinhalte vermitteln zu können. Bei einem festen Stamm von langfristig gebundenen Hochschullehrern bedeutet der kurzfristige Wechsel von Gastprofessuren eine ständige Zufuhr neuer Ideen und auch eine Intensivierung des Engagements aller."

"The newly-founded Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design has good chances of becoming an island of reform in the midst of wide-spread misery in tertiary education. This is not only due to its novel program contents, but also to its novel structure. [...]

 

Four out of twelve professors are already tenured, among them all professors for theoretical fields in which doctoral studies are possible. Eight professors are on a six-year tenure track. In addition to that, the university has created five professorships each for the duration of three years and one year. This structure allows the university to react swiftly to new developments and to constantly adapt course contents. With a core of professors who are committed to the university in the long-term, the short-term fluctuations among visiting lecturers represent a steady inflow of new ideas as well as an intensification of dedication and commitment on all sides."
